We met with Joey, asking if this was possible. How big of a project will this be? Doing some estimating. The number we had in our heads. Here is where we are willing to go. For us, the big thing was how big the project would be and the price. Was it able to stay within the budget? It was. We are just as excited about the loft and the flooring. The quality of work we are really pleased with the quality of the work. They were all super friendly. We felt comfortable with all the subs. They were all respectful and professional.
Five reasons you need to take advantage of wasted space in your household:
- You have a growing household: Kids are getting older, and everyone needs more space and privacy.
- You are saving to move: Maybe you want to move but need to buy yourselves more time to save.
- You want to increase the value of your home: Increase the value of your home.
- You need more livable space NOW: COVID, Zoom, WORK FROM HOME. You name it- it’s a reason to build out over the empty space in your home.
- You want more space but don’t want to lose your front/backyard: Add square footage to your home without cutting into your front yard or backyard space.
Might not want to DIY it, though.
Building codes, safety, fire sprinklers, and blueprints are just the beginning of the work needed for this conversion. Check out a sneak peek of plans for a recent project we just completed:

“We had a lot of wasted space before. We had high ceilings. Our kids are getting older. For us, it was about getting all of us more freedom. Initially, we met with Joey, asking if this was possible. We were teaching from home. There were a few times when there was a lot of noise; they would ask when they were doing the electrical upstairs when they needed to cut the power, can you give me ten minutes to finish this class and let the kids complete their class. It was perfect weather I was talking with the sub or with Gold Coast. I love it. Before, I was like, meh… it’s a loft- no big deal. I am really pleased. I am in that loft more often than I thought I would be. The kids are in there all the time. Jackie is in there. It’s made our house bigger, size-wise. This house was starting to feel really small, to the point. We were thinking about do we move, do we not move? Now, we’ve got the space up there. It gives us the comfort that we will be here a little longer. We are really pleased with how it all came out. We were hoping for this; it looks like it has always been here. It really flows
