Joey was super respectful of keeping the construction materials as contained as possible so we could still have our nephews over for the summer. He was super responsive. I would text him immediately, I would get either an answer or call back or something, or he would say, give me 10 minutes. He was here a lot to himself, which is really lovely. Although we ended up having a good relationship with the subcontractors, too, It was perfect to see him on-site, and I know he was really watching what was happening. We’re delighted. My parents love the layout. They love the fixtures.

We decided that having a separate structure where my Mom and Dad could have autonomy and my mom could have her own kitchen… was a huge deal. It was a big decision to go from no mortgage to what we bought our house for almost twenty-two years ago. It felt like we were starting over. We are young enough that we have time to pay it off. Having my parents close was so important. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. Long-term, my husband and I, in our retirement as well, not just for my parents today but in 25 years, what it does for the value of the property, and rental income. I posted a post saying, “We’re looking to have this done.” Then he came out really quickly. I found this design. I gave it to Joey. We did the design process. We made a couple of pretty substantial changes. I had no idea going into it how many departments in the city you had to have your plans approved by before you could start construction. My husband was speaking with the city at the same time, getting completely the same story. So it wasn’t like we were hearing one thing from Joey and something different from the city.
