Jay Stokes
Owner, Pet Service Solutions, Upland
I’m Jay Stokes, and this is Pet Service Solutions. My name is Joey, and I am the owner of Gold Coast Solutions. Today we’ll walk you through a commercial project that we did in Upland, California, for Pet Service Solutions. It was a tire shop. Yeah, Goodyear Tires. We have some lovely Coronado stacked stone on the walls. We also had these two roll-ups in for easy access for the dogs. These are my dogs, Jack and Sandy. You’ll come through this friendly brand-new double-door storefront that we installed. This was the room where you would come in and pick out your tires. And then the big windows you can see there is where they would be working on your car, and you can see them working on your vehicle, and now you can see your dog’s playing, so we kept this wall the same, the same windows were here. And it was a great layout that worked well for our business. We painted the entire ceiling of the pet hotel this nice matte black to match the theme of their other location. We trenched, cut, and dug out these linear floor drains to drain all the liquid, water, and whatever you have outside the building. We did lots of drywall throughout this building; I think 4000 square feet of drywall; the indoor fencing was essential to us because, you know, big dogs jumping on a fence can cause it to fail. So, we had to spend a lot of time and planning on those to make sure that those things were explicitly done right for our use and to have particular floors in our indoor dog parks that we had to make sure were installed correctly. We have rubber floors in there that are rolled rubber and needed to have the seam appropriately sealed so no water or anything would get underneath them because that can cause issues down the road. So, one challenge in our business is getting circulation throughout the building because when you have a lot of dogs together, there can be lots of different smells. Joey found a company he uses that has made custom-made wrought iron fences that we installed permanently where the garage doors are, so we can open the garage doors and the dogs can get the airflow but can’t get out. My wife and I both worked in pet hospitals before, and we had our dogs stay at pet hotels a few times and had not-so-great results with their stays, so we felt like we could do it better. We update our clients daily with pictures, videos, and text messages to let them know how their pets are doing. And it also opens a channel for communication. Joey was always great at responding quickly to me and being there when we had a concern or an issue. Communication was excellent through text, email, and phone. We always were able to communicate quickly and efficiently together.
