I’m Casey Hoover, and I’m Patty Mitchell. I’m Margaret Hoover.
The short story is about my mother, who has lived in Palm Desert for the last 41 years; she needed to get closer to home, and trying to find a senior community is just too expensive. We looked into an ADU, and we called Joey, who explained it exceptionally well. We realized it was a very affordable option, and it moved my mom to the property where I could look after her and help her with things.
That was the basic concept that we were looking at. We knew we’d like to have her in a something one-bedroom. We needed a kitchen, a bathroom, a living area, and a small house, and we wanted to go above a studio-state type of place. We told Joey what we were looking for.
Brent got involved and listened, and that’s how we came about it.
There was a post about an ADU, and Joey popped up. I messaged him, and he got a hold of us, came and talked to us, and showed us the Rancho ADU. I said I would like to see an ADU. We went and saw the Rancho ADU. It was beautiful. We said that’s exactly what we wanted.
I had several questions when he left, and we would email him, or I would text him, and he got right back to us. He’s easy to work with. Listens to everything.
He’s got big ears, and he listens to everything. If he doesn’t have an answer, he gets it for you. The experience was good. It’s a great group of guys that work for Gold Coast. They’re mindful of your living space, and we’re at the end of a cul de sac, which meant there were a lot of trucks. It never seemed to be a problem with any of the neighbors.
It just it was a good experience.
Like I said, such a good group of guys that are so mindful never intruded upon our space. They came in through the gate on this side of the house, and they cleaned up. They were always immaculate. You end up with a trash pile- it’s a construction site, but it all stayed over here. This was the old batting cage area, which is a much more excellent addition than the old batting cage I mentioned.
I’ve been in the plumbing trade for 40-plus years. I’m well aware of how construction goes.
Inspections were always done on a timely basis, and they were passed. The construction job was very, very skilled labor, very skilled guys that work for a Gold Coast. Patty wanted to be better versed in construction and had many more questions. Joey always got right back to me; there was never friction or anything. He listened to us, and yeah, no, everything worked out well.
It is gorgeous. I mean, it is. It’s just beautiful, you know? It’s well made. There’s plenty of room in here for, you know, one person or a couple to live in.
It’s everything Joey said it would be. I took him at his word that this was what he would build for us. And he delivered. This is what we got. This is beautiful here.
We have Barb here. She’s independent and on her own. But we’re right there if she needs anything; that works out well that she’s right here, but she can have her own space. We’re just delighted with everything,
Dude. I’m so pleased I will have Joey build me a swimming pool. That’s how glad we are.
If you need to become more familiar with construction, it’s an awakening. There’s a lot of noise. If you’re building one not attached to your house, you’ll still have noise, debris, and construction. It’s just it’s a different world. Just breathe, let it go, and make it happen. And it’s okay.
It is. This is a fantastic group of guys, and this company that they do it right.
I was shocked, but I knew we had to install an electrical panel because the one in the main house was old. But I didn’t realize they had to cut the stucco, which shocked me. But I was going to have my house stucco and painted anyway, so it was good.
They had to dig a trench in my backyard, you know, to go from the main house to here. My yard looks beautiful, though you would never know that there was a trench that took out the grass at one point, and you wouldn’t know. It grows back!
It’s all worth it. It’s worth it.
I’d come over and say hi to the guys, you know, I got to where I knew Papa; what’s happening? I got to know them by name. And Elias, Come on in. You know, mama!
They started construction in August and ended in December. We were hoping to get her in by Christmas. Joey thought maybe Thanksgiving, by Christmas, for sure. We went past Thanksgiving, and part of it was the weather. Part of it was the city of Clermont. There were circumstances, and it got down to the right at the end, and there were a bunch of guys out here trying to get everything, and she had to be out of her house in the desert by the 19th of December.
That was escrow closing, which was a little sooner than I anticipated. I didn’t think her place would sell that quickly.
Joey made a lot of things happen right at the end. I know it was very stressful on him and his guys, but they finished up in here about five or 6:00, right after the 19th. Mom stayed with us for a week, but they finished up about 5:00, and then the cleaning lady came and had it cleaned by 7:30, and we started moving stuff in that night. It was just incredible. She got in before Christmas and celebrated Christmas with us; it was just that stressful there at the end. But you know what?
It happened. Everything was done. It happened the way it was supposed to.
