Building Mom’s ADU in Claremont

Joey was always very responsive. Any time I needed anything, he was right on it. So it was good communication. And throughout the process, definitely. Get a contractor you can work with that. You can communicate well with them. That’s on the same page when it comes to design and expenses. That’s one thing I really appreciated. Joey wasn’t trying to upsell me or trying to, you know, do high-end things. It was just very practical. And he knew it was intended for my mother. He made a lot of things specifically, that would work for my mother, like the walk-in shower, and things like that. I think communication is critical with a contractor

Does it make financial sense to build an ADU on your property?

Joey was super respectful of keeping the construction materials as contained as possible so we could still have our nephews over for the summer. He was super responsive. I would text him immediately, I would get either an answer or call back or something, or he would say, give me 10 minutes. He was here a lot to himself, which is really lovely. Although we ended up having a good relationship with the subcontractors, too, It was perfect to see him on-site, and I know he was really watching what was happening. We’re delighted. My parents love the layout. They love the fixtures.

Could an Accessory Dwelling Unit Help Your Aging Parent?

The place is beautiful. It’s gorgeous. Not many people have been able to come and see it. Everyone who does is just so surprised by all the different detail that went into it, just
how nice it is, and how the craftsmanship in work is really excellent. Don’t be afraid to ask for something. If there’s something you really like or there’s something that you have questions about, Joey was excellent at being able to just brainstorm ideas. Our ADU had a couple different challenges and a unique shape, so we had to be creative many times to get what we wanted. My advice would just be to research everything you want. If it’s something you really wish to do, work with Joey. He’ll find a way to get that thing that you desire, the design you want in your home.

What to Look for in an ADU Contractor

I could not imagine a better place to build an ADU. It was just a flat, open piece of land for building it so that my customer’s older parents have somewhere to stay when they come and visit their grandkids about 640 square feet, single bedroom, all vaulted ceilings, all siding on the exterior to match the existing house.
